Intercessions 2-12-12

E-mail Print PDF

Lord, as we look at our own church and strive to make it grow, we thank you for all the good things that are happening. For the Bishop’s visit this week for Linda’s ministry and for the work done by members of the congregation. We thank you Lord for the pleasure of having friends around us and for the opportunities to plan and pray together and for those who give of their time and talents to improve the beauty of our surroundings.

Lord in your mercy – hear our prayer

Lord we are thankful for the peace and prosperity we enjoy in this village and also in this country. We are mindful that many others do not have the same fortune. We remember in particular those in areas suffering war, terrorism or military conflict including those in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Syria. We ask that those with the power to influence events in these areas use that power wisely and we seek your help in guiding the resolution of these issues and the comfort of the injured and the injured families. May we and the rest of the world one day put conflict behind us and remember the words of Paul:
To be completely humble and gentle, to be patient and bearing with one another in love and to make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

Lord in your mercy – hear our prayer

Lord as we look back on yet another week of turmoil between our press and politicians, we thank you for our good fortune in living in a country that is largely democratic and free and we pray that it may remain so. We are conscious that there are many parts of the world that do not enjoy the same standards of governance and some where corruption and tyranny are the norm with no checks and balances. We know that power can corrupt and that absolute power can corrupt absolutely. Help us Lord in our daily lives to remember that whatever small powers we have invested in us at our work or in our homes is a gift to be used wisely and that we are simply stewards entrusted to manage your resources.

Lord in your mercy – hear our prayer

Lord we have heard much recently of the economic problems of some southern European countries and indeed of similar self induced problems in our own country. Let us remember Lord that the problems stem largely from greed and self interest and pale into insignificance next to the hardships borne by a third of the world that does not today have enough to eat. Give your comfort to those that go to bed hungry tonight and help those of us that do not to be generous in helping others.

Lord in your mercy – hear our prayer

Lord we ask for your blessing for those who are sick, in pain or mental anguish and ask that they find comfort through you. We pause for a few moments to remember those that are close to us…………..

Lord in your mercy – hear our prayer

Finally Lord may we seek your help not to be judgemental or critical of others but show tolerance and kindness by our words and our deeds. Give grace to us Lord and to our families, friends and neighbours that we may serve Christ in one another and love as he loves us.

Merciful Father
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ Amen
